How to migrate virtual machine from Proxmox to Vmware Vsphere

Tuhocmang – Virtualization – Vmware Virtualization – How to migrate virtual machine (VM) from Promox to Vmware Vsphere

Hi guys

For some reasons, I had to migrate my VM which was running from Promox to Vmware Vsphere

I searched on google i find the easy way to migrate.

I read that article

http://gurutek.biz/migrating-from-proxmoxopenvz-to-esxesxivmware-server-part-1/

But, finally i decided to choose StarWin V2V for migration

This Following is my whole process

Step1:

I clone my VM. Promox support vmdk, so i chose vmdk format for Clone VM (you also choose QUME image format)

promox
promox

After clone process. i downloaded file vmdk from my Promox to my computer (i used FileZilla).

I upload it into vmware datastore (to run on VMware Vsphere)

Step 2:

I create a new Vm on VMware Vsphere with the same old Vm ‘s configuration. I added vmdk file  (that i have just upload) to my VM

But, i got an error. That VMDK file is not compatible with Vmware Vsphere ?? (that is reason we should choose QUME image)

Step 3:
I used StarWin V2V to convert (link download:  https://www.starwindsoftware.com/v2v-converter-download

Install StartWinV2V

install starwin
install starwin

install starwin
install starwin

install starwin
install starwin

install starwin
install starwin

install starwin
install starwin

Launch StarWin

migrate proxmox to vsphere
migrate proxmox to vsphere

Choose Local File

migrate proxmox to vsphere
migrate proxmox to vsphere

migrate proxmox to vsphere
migrate proxmox to vsphere

migrate proxmox to vsphere
migrate proxmox to vsphere

migrate proxmox to vsphere
migrate proxmox to vsphere

migrate proxmox to vsphere
migrate proxmox to vsphere

migrate proxmox to vsphere
migrate proxmox to vsphere

Step 5

I added VMDK that i converted to VM (step 2)

Step 6

You will receive error like that

“Cannot complete operation due to concurrent modification by another operation”

Just increase the size of VMDK

Step 7

When i start new VM, i also got the error

ExecStart=/etc/rc.d/init.d/network start (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)

OK, i removed the virtual nic and added new virtual nic. Then i started VM again and reconfigure parameter on /etc/sysconfig/network-script/…

Done… I migrated VM from Proxmox to Vmware Vsphere

Note:

My article can’t help to decrease downtime… but it can help you migrate VM from Proxmox to Vmware Vsphere with no error

Tks for readming
